BUDDY PROGRAM

We are excited to announce a new ministry beginning at Johnston Heights Church to support children with diverse needs. It is called the Buddy Program.

What is it?

The Buddy Program volunteers who will be paired up with children in our church to support them through routine during Sunday School. They will help the child follow the schedule and expectations, help make their time enjoyable, find ways for the child to participate and make connections with their peers. A buddy is not a babysitter. Buddies are there to come alongside a child who require support to participate in church life and help make Jesus known.

Who can volunteer?

An ideal buddy is someone who is minimum age Grade 6, has a desire to serve, a willingness to learn, enjoys spending time with children and can be flexible. There will always be an adult on site to provide assistance.

What are the time requirements?

We will need a current criminal record check (for volunteers 18+). Once our Buddy Program has launched you will be placed on the schedule 1-2 time per month through the Services app. On days you are scheduled you will be expected to join the morning meeting 30 minutes prior to service in the Preschool Classroom to receive a brief on where you will be, what the lesson is and notified of any changes in the schedule. Support Plans will need to be reviewed prior to Sunday School classes beginning.
